![]() ![]() Siri Potluriįrom good music, fun art, amazing treats, and an energetic atmosphere, the Spoon UCLA team had a “Crazy Good” time starting the school year off right. We ate our ice cream as we enjoyed people playing basketball and the live DJ music. I never would have thought of pop tarts as an ice cream topping - this was the missing piece of my ice cream sundae that I never knew I needed. On the other side of the court was an ice cream station in which we could choose between two flavors- Madagascar Vanilla and Strawberry Pop-Tart Ice cream- and add crumbles of Pop-Tarts as a topping. The team graciously provided us with three boxes of flavors from Strawberry, Wild Berry, Cookies and Creme, Hot Fudge Sundae, and obviously, the fan-favorite, Lemon Creme Pie. An eye-catching wall of endless pop tarts lined one side of the court. Siri PotluriĪfter we finished “frosting” our gear, we were directed to a basketball court behind the venue which was filled with fans and celebrities, including Snot, Sommer Ray, and Cole Bennet. While waiting to decorate our new merch, the Pop-Tarts team provided us with hats and a tote which held a water bottle, an actual lemonade with the Lyrical Lemonade logo, and some really cool stickers. Music from some of Lyrical Lemonade's Cole Bennett's biggest projects with artists, like JUICE WRLD, Post Malone, Cardi B, and Eminem, was playing and it was setting the vibes just right for frosting. We were first directed to the “frosting room” where we designed hats, shoes, and bags with Lyrical Lemonade stickers and patches. This box was truly eyecatching and is the largest Pop-Tarts box ever made. In the center of the venue, there was the huge limited edition Lyrical Lemonade x Pop-Tarts box. These included photos of the iconic lemon that Lyrical Lemonade is known for. When we entered the venue, we were greeted by Pop-Tarts employees and an array of art and prints created by Lyrical Lemonade fans. The event was already off to such an amazing start before we even got to try out everything they had to offer. Before we even walked in we were able to get photos with Storm Ried, a famous actress known for her role in Euphoria and other famous movies. While walking down Melrose we were able to see the decorated building and fans waiting to get in. ![]() The building in which the event was held was immediately eye-catching with bright blue and yellow pop art and the Lyrical Lemonade lemon head icon to represent the collaboration. This meant that fans were able to bring any merchandise they wanted- from tote bags to t-shirts to shoes- to get custom-designed with patches from the event. Before the release of the limited-edition box on August 14th, Lyrical Lemonade “frosted” fan’s back-to-school wear with collaboration art. Lyrical Lemonade took this “Crazy Good” collab to another level with an exclusive pop-up event on Melrose. This is the first time Pop-Tarts released the reign on their iconic box for an artist to reimagine in a colorful and creative style. Last Friday, the Pop-Tarts teamed up with Lyrical Lemonade to present their first-ever limited edition box- Pop-Tarts x Lyrical Lemonade Lemon Creme Pie. These rocks are created deep inside the Earth's mantle and then rapidly exhumed to the surface. In the study done by Bonatti and Crane, peridotite and gabbro rocks were discovered in the edges of the transform ridges. As this takes place, the fault changes from a normal fault with extensional stress to a strike-slip fault with lateral stress. Finally, fracturing along these planes forms transform faults. ![]() This occurs over a long period of time with the spreading center or ridge slowly deforming from a straight line to a curved line. Evidence of this motion can be found in paleomagnetic striping on the seafloor.Ī paper written by geophysicist Taras Gerya theorizes that the creation of the transform faults between the ridges of the mid-oceanic ridge is attributed to rotated and stretched sections of the mid-oceanic ridge. Instead of the ridges moving away from each other, as they do in other strike-slip faults, transform-fault ridges remain in the same, fixed locations, and the new ocean seafloor created at the ridges is pushed away from the ridge. Transform faults move differently from a strike-slip fault at the mid-oceanic ridge. This lateral movement of seafloors past each other is where transform faults are currently active. Although separated only by tens of kilometers, this separation between segments of the ridges causes portions of the seafloor to push past each other in opposing directions. ![]() With new seafloor being pushed and pulled out, the older seafloor slowly slides away from the mid-oceanic ridges toward the continents. These mid-oceanic ridges are where new seafloor is constantly created through the upwelling of new basaltic magma. Transform faults are commonly found linking segments of divergent boundaries ( mid-oceanic ridges or spreading centres). Transform faults and divergent boundaries They also act as the plane of weakness, which may result in splitting in rift zones. Transform faults specifically accommodate lateral strain by transferring displacement between mid-ocean ridges or subduction zones. Finally, transform faults form a tectonic plate boundary, while transcurrent faults do not.įaults in general are focused areas of deformation or strain, which are the response of built-up stresses in the form of compression, tension, or shear stress in rock at the surface or deep in the Earth's subsurface. Both types of fault are strike-slip or side-to-side in movement nevertheless, transform faults always end at a junction with another plate boundary, while transcurrent faults may die out without a junction with another fault. Transform faults are closely related to transcurrent faults and are commonly confused. Difference between transform and transcurrent faults This hypothesis was confirmed in a study of the fault plane solutions that showed the slip on transform faults points in the opposite direction than classical interpretation would suggest. Slip along transform faults does not increase the distance between the ridges it separates the distance remains constant in earthquakes because the ridges are spreading centers. ![]() The new class of faults, called transform faults, produce slip in the opposite direction from what one would surmise from the standard interpretation of an offset geological feature. Geophysicist and geologist John Tuzo Wilson recognized that the offsets of oceanic ridges by faults do not follow the classical pattern of an offset fence or geological marker in Reid's rebound theory of faulting, from which the sense of slip is derived. Transform boundaries are also known as conservative plate boundaries because they involve no addition or loss of lithosphere at the Earth's surface. A smaller number of such faults are found on land, although these are generally better-known, such as the San Andreas Fault and North Anatolian Fault. This is a result of oblique seafloor spreading where the direction of motion is not perpendicular to the trend of the overall divergent boundary. They accommodate the lateral offset between segments of divergent boundaries, forming a zigzag pattern. No lithosphere is destroyed or created, and mountain chains are not built at transform boundaries. Shear stress operates at transform boundaries, which involves sliding motion. A transform boundary occurs when two tectonic plates move past one another. ![]() ![]() ![]() At the beginning it won’t look like a car, but start with simple shapes and get the outline or silhouette of the car, you’ll find this to be a lot easier down the road. His observations and subsequent research suggested that if we do not rehearse a memory and the neural representation of that memory is not reactivated over a long period of time, the memory representation may disappear entirely or fade to the point where it can no longer be accessed. He found that his memories diminished as time passed, with the most forgetting happening early on after learning. Ebbinghaus created more than 2,000 nonsense syllables, such as dax, bap, and rif, and studied his own memory for them, learning as many as 420 lists of 16 nonsense syllables for one experiment. It has been known since the pioneering work of Hermann Ebbinghaus ( 1885/1913 ) that as time passes, memories get harder to recall. Most of the time this is not problematic, but in certain situations, such as when you are studying for an exam, failures to encode due to distraction can have serious repercussions.Īnother proposed reason why we forget is that memories fade, or decay, over time. Similarly, it has been well documented that distraction during learning impairs later memory (e.g., Craik, Govoni, Naveh-Benjamin, & Anderson, 1996 ). However, few of us have studied the features of a penny in great detail, and since we have not attended to those details, we fail to recognize them later. For example, people have a lot of trouble recognizing an actual penny out of a set of drawings of very similar pennies, or lures, even though most of us have had a lifetime of experience handling pennies ( Nickerson & Adams, 1979 ). ![]() ![]() Usually, encoding failures occur because we are distracted or are not paying attention to specific details. If you fail to encode information into memory, you are not going to remember it later on. One very common and obvious reason why you cannot remember a piece of information is because you did not learn it in the first place. ![]() ![]() ![]() Depending on the content or how it’s used, Remote Play may not be available. Since this type of applied perspective effect is merely a distortion rather than a created 3D effect, hidden object portions (such as the top surface of the left object in the previous example) are not created.ĭepending on how adventurous you’d like to get, you may wish to do a little preparation work before applying your perspective distortion. The left and right sides of each object were applied with perspective, but the gray side was added manually.Īs an object is being manipulated in Perspective, CorelDRAW 11 automatically subdivides the shape into eight horizontal rows and eight vertical columns for visual reference. The next example shows shapes applied with CorelDRAW 11’s perspective effect. While an object’s perspective is in progress, your active cursor becomes the Shape Tool, enabling you to drag the nodes and points. You can intuitively apply perspective to single objects or groups of objects by manipulating one of four corner nodes or one of two vanishing points around your object. As you work with CorelDRAW 11’s perspective effect, you’ll soon realize that achieving a true perspective effect involves a little more than a few simple clicks and drags.Ĭompared to other dynamic effects in CorelDRAW 11, perspective is easy to apply. ![]() If you have previous experience drawing with perspective effects, this may seem second nature to you. True perspective involves vanishing points above, below, or to one side or the other in relation to an object or scene. Notice that the vanishing points align with the horizon line, and the guidelines show how all straight-line surfaces point toward them. ![]() The next example shows two objects drawn in perspective, each with its own pair of vanishing points. Most often, vanishing points align with the horizon line with all sides and surfaces diminishing as they progress toward these points. Vanishing points enable you to simulate diminishing volume. These points of reference are your plane of vision, the horizon, and vanishing points. As you learn the relationships between the points of reference involved, you can apply your own sense of depth and volume to just one shape or throughout an entire scene. Manually creating the illusion of perspective is not something only “gifted” illustrators are capable of-it’s an acquired skill which requires practice to perfect. Once you crack the riddle of this relationship, you can simulate 3D perspective effects in nearly any illustration task. When multiple objects and/or surfaces are involved, they share a fixed relationship with several reference points-the horizon line (your vantage point), the depth of the objects, and your plane of vision. The closer they are, the larger they appear the further they are, the smaller they appear. Let’s take a close look at perspective drawing and learn a few tips and tricks CorelDRAW provides.Īs the distance between our plane of vision and an object’s surfaces increase the measurements of its edges and surfaces change. ![]() This feature has changed little over the years and remains the unchanged in recent versions of CorelDRAW. For this, you can add a sense of depth using CorelDRAW’s perspective effect. Perspective also comes into play with the surfaces on individual objects. So it goes without saying that to make your shapes appear realistic in an illustrated scene, you’ll need to add a sense of depth by scaling things which are close larger than things which are farther away. In the real world, all the shapes you see with your eyes have at least some degree of perspective-the effect of distant shapes appearing smaller. ![]() ![]() ![]() Monks now receive Defensive Roll and so, as long as they meet the dexterity and tumble requirements, they can choose this feat. The map below shows the locations of the new development. The size of the circles corresponds to the relative number of new residential units being constructed. We begin the series with a simple overview of the various developments – what is being proposed, where, and by whom? Over the next several weeks Highland Park Planet will be examining these new development proposals in detail, along with the efforts of the citizens and elected officials to make sure that the growth occurs in a way that benefits the entire community. The development projects are at different stages of completion, as indicated below, such as under construction, recently in receipt of site plan approval, seeking site plan approval, and seeking zoning changes to allow the project to proceed. Complicating the settlement agreements is the fact that after the suits were filed it was determined that the town actually met New Jersey’s mandates for the provision of affordable units, but simply failed to file its plan in a timely manner. If a municipality is not in compliance with State law regarding the provision of affordable housing, a developer has the right to sue and build a development that is not in compliance with the local zoning (particularly the density), as long as the development includes a significant amount of affordable housing. However, it is noteworthy that two of the projects – Pulte’s The Crossings (under construction) and the American Properties Cleveland Avenue (seeking approvals) – are the products of developer “builder’s remedy” lawsuits brought against the municipality for its failure to comply in a timely manner with the State of New Jersey affordable housing mandates. In addition, the new projects would include about 50 affordable units to serve low-and-moderate income individuals. The mix of positive and negative attributes depends on the specifics of each development, including its location relative to the downtown, size, design, assessed valuation, and any other subsidies or benefits that go to, or come from, the developer. However, the new development also could bring more vibrancy and economic benefits to the downtown and more dollars to the municipal coffers. By 2024, the community could have over 500 new residential units bringing as many as 1,000 new residents, along with new traffic and an undetermined number of school students. Highland Park, NJ, is about to experience a growth spurt in residential development. The purpose is to discuss and have a public hearing about the proposed changes in the Master Plan that would be necessary to accommodate the American Properties’ Builder’s Remedy lawsuit settlement being considered by the Highland Park Borough Council and Planning Board. The Highland Park Planning Board will convene a special meeting on Monday, Nov. 31 update to story that first appeared on Oct. ![]() ![]()
